What's the best summer concert you've ever attended?
1991 - The 1st Lollapalooza - Walnut Creek Amphitheater, Raleigh, NC
Ahh...the good ole days! It was the first summer of Lolla and the first summer that Walnut Creek opened. Lolla cheeslily(now, not then) felt like the Woodstock of my Generation (X) and the caravan from Greenville (ECU) to Raleigh was long, winding and snaked all the way up 64.
Back then, you could swap tickets (no wrist bands, yet)....so if you were on the lawn and a friend had a seat up front...you could swap and hang out in both places...Good times! From what I remember...mulitband touring concerts weren't all that big (or I wasn't paying attention....good possibility) and certainly not bands like:
Emergency Broadcast Network (ok...so I don't know who this is...nor do I remember seeing them.)
Sooo good! I had already seen NIN/Jane's/Rollins Band live...but it didn't lessen my excitement. I was most looking forward to Siouxsie because I'd never experienced her live...and she did not disappoint. Oi!
The next year was my only other visit to Lolla....just wasn't feeling it after that. The 2nd year was ok...but nowhere near as grand and special as the first. (Although tripping acid during the Ministry show was quite the experience...Fires, flying pizza boxes and moshing...oh, my!)
BTW...pretty sure Lolla is being held in Chicago this weekend (the only place, maybe?)and I'd love to be there. Lots of bands I'd die to see...esp. Sharon Jones
What's the next album you're looking forward to buying?
Well...it only took me 15 minutes to track down (after reading it on Mook's VOX) where the hell this QotD even resides!?!?!
Anyway...Its a toss up between a few albums...These have all been ummm sampled on the 'net enough for me to know I want the real deal...
I'll even include a track from each cause I'm bored cool like that..
Heard great things about this band and the album...I think it comes out/came out this week...
and..this track is already in mon VOX collect-c-on but hope to have the rest of the goodness in my grubby hands this weekend....
What do you do with the cards and letters you receive? Do you keep them all, just keep the photos, throw them away?
Inspired by jacolily.
Why...I take them and everybody else's and make a show out of it...and then a book and a web site. Don't you?
(Not sure how many will play...There are 3 in this embed....they save the best for last, "I Hate Drake")...and yeah...this doesn't technically jist with the Q...but whatever. ;-P
The first “season” will feature eight or nine episodes, with new ones released each week. While most episodes will be under five minutes, some stories get into the seven-to-eight-minute range, which Nadelberg realizes might be a challenge for Internet audiences. “Most online video doesn’t attempt to run an emotional gamut. We can do content that is very funny but also has poignancy and is oftentimes sad. You get that in film and you get that in TV shows, but not a lot of that online,” said Nadelberg, adding that, “It very well may be that the Internet audiences are not into that.”
The entire series is being self-produced by Mortified with no plans to monetize the first season with any kind of ads. Right now they just want to attract eyeballs.
What was the best blog post you wrote this year? What was the best post or blog you read?
Hmmm...that's a bit conceited, don't ya think VOX? s'cool with me....I'm all about me, anyway...
Not sure I have one favorite but I seem to enjoy the ones about my paranoia the most...tis very cathartic (I forgot to mention making sure I had stressful things for my Xmas trip home...You'll be happy to know I freaked about somebody breaking in the whole time I was gone...as well as the very REAL possibility of a deer/vehicle collision)
As far as other blogs...the first that comes to mind is Post Secret....their pain, our hopeful gain.... (plus I'm incredibly nosey)
What's the best photo you took this year? Show and tell!
Sheesh...next you'll be asking me to pick a favorite animal-child!?!? This is a tough one and I'm not even going to consider pet pictures cause there were too many good ones...
I think I like this one the best:
but I also really like these, too (so I'm changing the title and making it Best Photos) ;-p And there are more I really like ...all for different reasons...I'm such a fence sitter...I'd be a horrible judge!
and this one that made the THIS IS GOOD page
UPDATE:
dammit....just realized I forgot to change the STUPID default "no comments" thingy. GRRRR!
Anyway...I'm pretty stoked...5 of my pictures were accepted by PhotoShelter for possible purchase. Not sure if its an easy or hard thing to get accepted but since I was expecting all of them to be denied...I'm happy! Now...somebody needs to just buy'um for some major campaign....heh. 'Course they didn't accept my favorite above or the reflection one (too abstract and too many just like it already)
What's the best book you read this year?
As far as I remember, that is. I read so much that its hard to remember them all...but this one stand out...mainly because (and no offense meant here) its something Oprah might have you read but not something I'd usually pick up. In the whole scheme of things...I guess that doesn't matter...it was a great historical story involving animals and the circus...and was a great escape. One of those I was sad to see end.
WTF is up with these posts being defaulted to allow no comments? Retarded!
What was your major or field of study in college? Did you wind up working in that field or using that degree? If not, what field have you wound up in?
Submitted by sneuf.
I have a BS (ha!) in Communication (with a concentration in Broadcasting) with a Minor in English.
I went straight from college to working in local TV news (behind the scenes....camera/audio/directing/etc...) and did that for a few years...then to a technical college in Charleston to work with their distance learning programs...handling recording of classes and video conferencing....which led me back to NC and my current job.
I also currently mangle the English language on a daily hourly basis.
